WHAT IS SUBMENTAL LIPECTOMY?

Submental Lipectomy, also know as a neck lift, is a surgical procedure which removes localized fat deposits under the chin, corrects muscle laxity, or tightens sagging skin under the chin.

Ideal candidates are seeking to reshape their necks be removing excess fat under the chin, correcting muscle laxity, and tightening sagging skin. In these patients, Submental Lipectomy may achieve a more youthful neck with a better contour.

NOTE: You may not be a candidate for surgery if you smoke, have recently quit smoking, or if you are exposed to second-hand smoke. Primary and secondary smoking decreases blood flow to the body’s tissues. This can result in prolonged wound healing, skin loss, infection, increased scarring, and a number of other complications depending on the kind of procedure performed.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE PERFORMED?

In general, a small incision is made underneath the chin, The fat in this region is suctioned or directly excised. Typically, the deeper neck muscles are tightened, and extra skin and fat is removed from the neck. All of the incisions are placed in strategic areas so that they are camouflaged and not noticeable.

PREPARING AND PLANNING FOR YOUR SURGERY

First, schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Aguilar. You will have the opportunity to discuss your goals and the results you would like to achieve. Dr. Aguilar will work with you to reach an understanding about what you can expect from this procedure and what long-term benefits you will experience. Every patient is different and we will choose the surgical technique and treatment plan that’s right for you during your initial consultation. You will be asked for the following:

  • Complete medical history including previous surgical procedures, past and present medical conditions and all medications or herbal supplements that you’re taking.
  • Except Dr.Aguilar to examine your abdomen, including the quality of your abdominal skin, the location of existing scars and the amount of excess fat and underlying muscles.
  • Photographs will be taken for your medical record
  • We will discuss possible risk and complications of the procedure.

Prepare your guest, caregiver as the procedure will take 1-4 hours, depending on whether the neck lift is performed alone or in conjunction with liposuction and/or a facelift.shutterstock_180910559

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

Following surgery, a small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin behind your ear to drain any blood that might collect there. The surgeon may also wrap your head loosely in bandages to minimize bruising and swelling. Recovery time ranges between 1-2 weeks. Bruising will go down after 2 weeks. It’s common to have some sort of discomfort from the feeling of tightness but many patients do not experience any real pain after surgery. Most patients are back at work about ten days to two weeks after surgery.
