Breast Lift

Restore your breast to a firmer, perkier and more aesthetically pleasing shape with a breast lift. This procedure can improve a patient’s appearance by rejuvenating her youthful, feminine proportions and also help bras and swimsuits fit more comfortably and attractively.

WHAT IS A BREAST LIFT?

breast-liftA Breast Lift is also known as a Breast Mastopexy. It is a surgical procedure performed to raise and reshape the breasts. Factors such as age or nursing can cause the breast to lose their shape and firmness. Over time, this may cause the breasts to sag. This procedure removes excess, stretched out skin by reshaping the breast tissue and raising the nipple & areola into a more forward position which will create a more youthful breast contour. Stretched, large areolae can also be reduced during breast lift surgery, creating an overall better proportioned, natural looking breast.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE PERFORMED?

There are many variations in technique, depending on the degree of sagging and other physical features of the breast. The number and length of the scars will vary with technique. The most frequently used procedures involves three incisions – first around the areola, then from the nipple to the breast crease and a third along the breast crease. In some cases, the scar may be limited to the circular incision around the areola. The incisions outline the area from which skin will be removed and define the new location for the nipple. When excess skin has been removed, the nipple and areola are moved to the new position and the skin surround the areola is brought together to shape the breast.

OPTIONS TO ENHANCE THE PROCEDURE

A breast lift may be done in conjunction with breast augmentation. This helps lift the breast by increasing the volume of the contents of the breast.

PREPARING AND PLANNING FOR YOUR SURGERY

  • Photographs will be taken for your medical record.
  • Be prepared to discuss possible risk and complications of the procedure with Dr. Aguilar.

Because breast lift surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia, arrange a friend or family member to take you home after the surgery and at least 48 hours after. The procedure usually takes 1-2 hours all depending on the extent of the surgery. If you are planning to lose a significant amount of weight, as Dr.Aguilar may recommend that you stabilize your weight before undergoing surgery. Stop smoking at least six weeks before undergoing surgery to promote better healing. As you heal, your arms will have a limited range of motion, so store all the supplies you’ll need during recovery where they’re easily accessible (counter level, not in overhead or very low cabinets). Decide what you will wear for the first few days after the surgery; pick items that open in front. Wear slip-on shoes so you don’t have to bend.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

Your breasts will be bandaged or placed in a surgical bra, so it is advised that you wear a shirt that can open in the front to avoid discomfort when removing. Expect to sleep on your back for the first several weeks or more after surgery. If you normally sleep on your side or stomach, invest in some extra pillows to help keep you from turning over. Soreness and swelling should gradually subside over the first several months after, and most patients are permitted to begin wearing underwire bras again after about 8 weeks. Avoid hot water, saunas for at least 2-3 weeks after the surgery. As any other surgery, avoid physical sports, activities as it can risk the healing of the surgery.
